BASA & PPSC attended "Firefighter Appreciation Day" at IndyCar Race Weekend

This will go down as one of the most challenging times in recent memory for California firefighters, who have battled more than 2,000 fires all across the state since June 20.

From Shasta Trinity National Forest to Southern California, it has been a difficult time for the more than 17,000 firefighters who have been dispatched to these fires.

Infineon Raceway honored these courageous men and women for their incredibly heroic efforts at PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County during Firefighter Appreciation Day on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Firefighters where also recognized during pre-event ceremonies on Sunday prior to the green flag being dropped for the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County.

One very special addition to the weekend was the California State Fire Association (CSFA) Antique Steamer. Built in 1902 by the American Fire Engine Company in Ohio, this horse-drawn carriage, complete with trademark Dalmatian, served the city of Reno as Engine #1 for more than 20 years before its retirement in 1922. The Steamer was on display at Infineon Raceway over the weekend.

There was also a parade lap around the world famous road course by fire trucks and emergency response vehicles, as well as notable firefighters and dignitaries. We visited the special firefighter display booth, which featured donation buckets for those who wanted to contribute.

The weekend featured the best in both open-wheel racing and sports-car racing. The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series did headline on Saturday with the Armed Forces 250.  Sunday featured the IndiCar Series for the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indi Grand Prix of Sonoma County.

In addition we enjoyed the vintage Formula One with the Historic Grand Prix.

It did add up to a great day of racing with the IndyCar Series, as well as a time to thank the courageous men and women who have been on the front-lines for most of the summer.

"Thanks to the support of our business community we had a good time!  We all enjoyed the air show and pre-race entertainment followed by the open-wheel and sports-car racing. We did hear an announcement about the upcoming seafood Festival during the PATRIOTS air show. I really want to comeback every year.  The sport of racing is fun, lots of fun." said Eliza Vasquez, BASA student.

Students got to see first hand INFINEON offices, open-wheel racing and sports-car racing sponsors, licensees, teams, tracks and broadcast partners.

Consistent with our soccer programs, open-wheel racing and sports-car racing at Infineon was a family event that is safe and promote stable relationships between children and adults, and among children themselves. A social event for the entire family!
